One Third Stories Are Fundraising Through Kickstarter

That’s right folks. We’re ridiculously excited to announce that we will be launching a Kickstarter campaign on Tuesday the 17th of May!

We’re going to be raising money so that we can make our first proper book. It will start in English, and end in a different language after gradually introducing foreign words through our Clockwork Methodology®. We hope it’s going to make language learning easier and more enjoyable for children and inspire a new generation of linguists.

The book is being written with ideas from thousands of children (you can still submit more in our competition!) and illustrated by the supremely talented Hannah Hutchings. There’s going to be three different versions available; one that teaches French, one for Spanish and one for Italian. You can read the start of the story (albeit with different illustrations) right here to get a taste of things to come.

Alongside these beautiful hardcover books, we’ll be making an app. This will be a digital version of the story, fully narrated by a native speaker with lots of fun interactive bits thrown in for good measure. To say thank you for being one of our first supporters, you’ll be able to pre-order the app and the book on Kickstarter at a discounted price.

But it’ not just about pre-ordering. It’s an opportunity to help shape the book we’re making and be part of giving children the gift of another language. That’s why we’re offering our backers the chance to vote on which ideas from kids they like the best and decide what makes it into the final story. They’ll also be an option to bulk buy books and apps to transform language education at your local school or charity.

In preparation for all of this, Alex and I spent the weekend filming our Kickstarter video. It was quite the experience and a load of fun, mostly thanks to the fantastic child-stars who turned up to help us out…as well as climbing us, colouring us in and pelting us with paper. We even got to work with mini versions of ourselves which was especially enjoyable and only slightly surreal.

The other highlight was getting to spend all day at Rogan’s Books. With the selection of amazing children’s books on offer there, it’s a miracle I ever dragged myself away to get stuff filmed. Rogan’s really is a magical place for book-lovers of all ages and I would highly recommend that anybody in the Bedford area get on over there immediately.

But shooting a video was just the start of our Kickstarter journey.  In fact, there’s so much to do, we could really use a bit of help from all of you. If you’re interested in getting involved, or just want to find out more about the campaign, make sure you’re connected to us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We also send out a weekly newsletter with loads of puns in it if you’d like to sign up for that too.

Right now, we’d really appreciate it if you could help us spread the word about what we’re up to so please do get in touch with [email protected] if you’ve got any contacts in the blogosphere or traditional media. We’d also love it if you could tell your friends about us by shouting from the rooftops, a 12 hour interpretive dance show or teaching your dog to bark “One Third Stories”. Or you might want to do something as simple as liking and sharing one of our Facebook posts. Your choice.

Thanks in advance for all of your help and amazing support. Alex and I can’t wait to get the Kickstarter up and running!
